In 2025, there's no way to escape it -- ChatGPT and other similar AI tools are changing the way we do almost everything, and the world is struggling to catch up. Just a few short years ago, if you had told a college professor that assigning essays would soon become an almost entirely obsolete practice, or if you had told an artist that there would soon be AI systems capable of generating incredibly realistic "art" depicting novel settings, they would have laughed at you, and told you that we're nowhere close to a world like that.

In their defense, there weren't many signs of this until 2022. Since then, AI has only become more and more advanced, and gained more and more capabilities. As of July 2025, we have tools like ChatGPT agent mode which can perform automated tasks like performing research or sending emails or ordering DoorDash. As this technology advances, there's a chance that AI could begin to automate more and more jobs that can be done on a computer.

​As a college student, I would be lying if I said that I don't find this to be a bit concerning. But ultimately, there isn't much that can be done to control the innovation of artificial intelligence. I think we should learn to use it as responsibly as we can, and I am trying to find ways to use AI tools in ways that help me be more efficient in doing my own work, rather than ways that make me lazy because I'm letting AI do all the work.

There's also the problem of AI "slop," or low-effort content that is generated by AI and spread in vast numbers on the internet. I do believe that this has actually caused people to have a greater appreciation for content and works of art that are created by humans.

All of this to say, nobody knows what the future holds, or how AI will change the world next; but we can use AI in a way that is as responsible and fruitful as possible.
